Violently Happy: Kimiko Yoshida’s Self Portraits

Is fashion an art form or a form of expression? I believe in both conceptions that’s one of the reasons why I love Yoshida’s work.

Her self portraits really make me think of my favorite painter’s style: Frida Khalo. A woman, her face and her feelings as well as the bright colors and the impact of the pieces are similar to me.

I love the fact that Ms. Yoshida released a collection of her pictures exclusively centered on herself dressed as a bride from different countries. Which shows her talent for fashion. I love the kimonos, sakura flowers and the use of shapes, light, color and materials she made. It is truly amazing. I hope you enjoy the gallery.
